Mountainside, Gordon's Bay · New home, double storey
NHBRC New Build
Another one on the Gordon's Bay mountainside, and another one where the ground came first. The site was dug out and held with an engineered block retaining wall before there was anything to build on.
The first floor slabs are precast, craned in over the site and landed on the walls. That was the client's and the architect's call. We specialise in casting slabs in situ and it is what we put forward, but a decision like that belongs to the client, and once they and their architect have made it we build it their way.
The living level is one big open plan volume rather than a set of rooms, and the piece we would point at is the staircase. It is a custom curved concrete stair, cast on site, which is a fair amount of work to shutter and get right.
Finished a few years back.
